Hi Kind regards Mike Bowden
Good afternoon Fionn, and to Michael as well. Well you certainly know how to pose a difficult question, the price of a Proto in 1908! Asking Siebe Gorman is * The Proto in its early form was known as the Fluess, then Fluess Davis apparatus, which even around 1908 was not that popular, it did not work as well as below; Leave it with me for a short while to see what I can come up with. OK Mike, some deliberations, dates can be a bit sketchy to find, prices even more so. These are from multiple early publications; * Wharncliff Silkstone fire, 1907 |

Hi I’m Gary from Chesterfield. We are due to go on the Miners Holiday Camp soon and just wondered if you knew much about it. My wife remembers when she used to go in the big building and sleep in dormitories. Why does it still stand today as we saw seagulls flying through the windows? Surely a building like that could be used for something. Any ideas as to why it still stands? Thanks...Gary |

I am doing the family history and I was hoping you may have more information on the Daglish engine as the maker seems to be one of my husbands blood relatives. Some information from Shane Philips |

Hi I was fortunate on one occasion with the use of the "PROTO" to rescue two small children. Do you have any information on the "one hour breathing set with the face mask no nose clip. Reply please. Leo
The 1 hour Proto Only differences were a smaller cylinder, and a 3.5 lb (as opposed to 4.5lb) protosorb charge in the breathing bag. I have loads of information about the place, I'll dig it out and scan some items for Leo, I should have an official Eibe Gorman brochure somewhere. Brian |

I am a ex-miner and my wife’s father was raised in Newcumnock and had family members involved in the Knockshinnoch mining disaster and I have tried in vain to buy a copy of the documentary film of the above called The Brave Don’t Cry and I would be most grateful if you could assist me with any information regarding where I could obtain a copy of the above. John Unfortunately, so far as I know," The Brave Don't Cry" is not out on DVD or video. |
