Mining Exhibition - Require images of the Ilkeston Mines Rescue Station and/or the men that worked there

I'm hoping you might be able to help me - we are going to be holding a mining exhibition here at the museum in Ilkeston this year and I wondered if you have any images you could let me use?  I'm particularly interested in images of the mines rescue station or the men that worked there.

Mining Terminology - What is a 'Filler'

Dear Fionn,
Your List of Pit Terminologies does not mention FILLER.   I presume it was someone who filled the tubs of hewn coal, but as the work described under COLLIER included filling tubs, could there be any other more specific task provided by a Filler.   

My grandfather William Green who was killed in the Cadby disaster was described as a Filler, so I have a personal interest in this.

Filler: – a miner at the coal face with a shovel, he could be filling corves with coal, corves being strong osier baskets in which the coals were conveyed.  He could be shovelling coal onto conveyors, often working in very difficult places often lying on their sides in a space with the roof only 20-22 inches from the floor.

What is an Incline Runner?

Hi 
 
I am researching my family tree, and one of them was a "Coal Miner Incline Runner" Do you know the description of this?

Different coalfields had different names for things, I would assume a 'Dook Runner' and an 'Incline Runner' are the same; in the north east of England in 1894 a 'Dook runner' was a person who sent wagons up an inclined roadway and ran or travelled with them.

Did the Mines Rescue Service ever have underwater diving capabilities?

Was wondering if you could help in answering a question. Are you aware if the Mines Rescue Service ever had any underwater diving capabilities amongst their skill set?

I do not think so, despite this photo.
They have helped in caving accidents however.

We’re looking for complete miners’ costumes e.g. shirt, pants, coat, helmet, scarf, shoes and lights.

Dear Sir,
Please allow me to introduce ourselves: our non-profit association “MijnVerleden” consists a group of enthusiastic ex-miners. We built our own private museum (www.mijndepot.be) at Genk, situated in the mine of André Dumont.

In 2012, we will co-operate with “MANIFESTA” (http://manifesta.org/biennials/manifesta9_current/) to organize a big event where we want to install an exhibition about mining. Therefore, we’ re looking for complete miners’ costumes (shirt, pants, coat, helmet, scarf, shoes and light).
Maybe you can help us? A little explanation would be great!

Afterwards, we want to make it a travelling exhibition that can take place in your region too.

 

Hopefully we can work together.

Purchasing Memorabilia For Our 'Mining Box' to be used by Schools, Youth Groups, Care Homes and Day Care Centres
Hello
I am the Education Coordinator at the Bailiffgate Museum (www.bailiffgatemuseum.co.uk) in Alnwick, Northumberland and we are putting together a Mining box for our Loans and Reminiscence Service, which will be used by Schools, Youth Groups, Care Homes and Day Care Centres.

I am trying to purchase a metal water bottle, "bait" (lunch) box, and a canvas bag and cannot find any of these items for sale online. I wondered if you could help. I would also like any other mining memorabilia suitable for handling by children - clothing, knee pads or aprons, pit checks, etc. Funds are limited so if anyone you know would be willing to donate these items, all the better - we would be extremely grateful.
