South Crofty

South Crofty

South Crofty was the last Tin Mine to close about 10 years ago. However a company is trying to re-open it at present as all surface facilities are still intact. They reckon it will take about 2-3 years to pump it dry !!! I was lucky enough to have a trip underground before it closed and was allowed to flood.

South Crofty Consultation Begins
29 November 2007

South Crofty tin mine finally closed in 1998 after a long fight.
People in Cornwall are to be asked for their views on new planning conditions at the old South Crofty tin mine.

It is part of a review of mineral planning permissions.

Over the next few weeks, Cornwall County Council will be carrying out neighbourhood leaflet drops and putting up public notices.

Owners of mineral sites which have been active after 1982 must submit new schemes of planning conditions and for working and site restoration.

Failure to do so would result in the expiry of existing planning permissions at the site.

South Crofty closed in 1998 after becoming less viable.

The company Baseresult bought the land and buildings together with mineral leases and equipment four years ago.

The Mineral Planning Authority is now satisfied that enough information has been supplied by Baseresult for formal consultation to be carried out.

That process will begin on Tuesday 4th December 07.
