1855 - 01/10/1855 – Sinkers. Moss Field, Simpson and Young, Oswaldtwistle, Church, Lancashire. The outer coils of rope falling off the drum or vertical causing the rope to break as they were descending the sinking pit. 4 killed.

1855 - 01/12/1855. Hamill, N.P. Wood, Burslem, Stafford. Fell into sump in trying to ascend. A boy.

1855 - 02/02/1955. Herbert’s Park, David Jones, Darlaston, Stafford. Piece of coal rolled on him.

1855 - 02/03/1855. Moxley, Groucott and Co, Bilston, Stafford. Fell down shaft. A man.

1855 - 11/01/1855. Bryn-yr-Owen Colliery Co., Wrexham, Denbigh. Drowned by inundation of water from old workings. 7 killed.

1855 - 11/03/1855 – Horsekeeper. Laffack, J. and T. Johnson, St. Helens, Lancashire. Drowned in water tank at bottom of pit.

1855 - 12/09/1855. Clanway, Child and Clive, Tunstall Stafford. Piece of iron fell out of skip onto his head.

1855 - 13/03/1855. Dukinfield Coal Co., Dukinfield, Cheshire. Explosion of firedamp. 4 killed.

1855 - 15/07/1855 - Assistant Horse keeper. Astley New, F.D.P. Astley, Dukinfield, Cheshire. Drawn over the pulley in ascending the pit. Two visitors were also killed. Manslaughter verdict. Acquitted at assizes. 2 killed.

The leather band of the indicator which an hour and a half before had been re-fixed, slipped loose. The engineman was trusting solely to hearing the bell. 7 killed.

1859 - 04/03/1859 – Age 27. A young man The Meadows B and J Southan, Bilston, Stafford. Fell to the bottom whilst pushing the skip up to the bottom.
