DAVIDSON Joseph - 1838 - 18/11/1838. No.2 Rock Vein Pit, Abersychan Monmouth. Burial Register of St Thomas’s Church, Talywain, showing the name of Joseph, who fell to his death down the shaft on November 18th, 1838. He was a native of Northumberland and a glue maker by trade, and had only been employed at the pit for four days.

DIXON Jonathan - 1832 - 14/11/1832 - age 45. St. Helens, Auckland, Durham. He was killed, by falling down the shaft. It was given in evidence before the coroner, that the rope he was on had got to the bottom, and that he had come so far back again, and then dropped off. The supposition was, that in going down the pit he had fallen asleep, and gone to the bottom clinging to the rope on that state; and that, when coming up, in the act of awakening he had fallen off.
