Ochiltree New Memorial

Ochiltree Memorial, Main Street, Ochiltree, East Ayrshire.

The memorial is dedicated to all Ochiltree Men and Boys who worked in the Coal Mining Industry. The memorial is a colliery hutch mounted on a set of rails.
The driving force behind it was David Reid, who over the period from 2019, eventually formed a wee mining heritage group from the miners who were left in the village. The group managed to obtain funding and support from East Ayrshire Greener Communities, a go fund me site, where several local companies, including a construction company who are building a battery storage site for windfarm energy outside the village.
The hutch and rails were constructed by East Ayrshires Greener Communities group who also sited it for us. It was unveiled on Sat 6th June 2026 by the surviving mineworkers of the village.
The memorial is sited outside the Ochiltree Hub in Main Street, Ochiltree. [O.S. Grid Reference NS 50591 21103]. Ochiltree is on the A70 Ayr to Edinburgh road. The A77, a continuation of the M77, the Holmston Roundabout. It crosses the A76 at Cumnock and the M74, south of Lesmahagow. Southbound leave the M74 at Junction 10 and follow the B7078 south bound to the A70, just east of M74 Junction 12. Northbound leave the M74 at Junction 12. On the south side of Prestonpans High Street (B1348) just east of junction with Prestongrange Road

This mural is on a sea wall at the eastern end of the car park directly north of the High Street, Prestonpans (B1384) immediately across the road from the Prestongrange Gothenburg Public House.

It is not visible from the road but can be viewed from the set of steps down to the seaside a short way east of the car park. It is not in the best of condition.
