Barlborough Colliery Closed After 55 Years

Barlborough 1 and 2 (North Derbyshire) (Staveley Coal and Iron Co Ltd) abandoned Aug 1928 after 55 years and 32 years. The pits were situated to the northwest of Clowne. Many old shallow pits were found in the area.
Seams worked: Top Hard - 1928, Chavery, Deep Soft,
High Hazle, all abandoned 30 Sep 1928.

Trowell Moor Colliery Closed After 49 Years

Trowell Moor (Nottinghamshire) (Cossall Colliery Co Ltd) Alton seam discontinued 29th Sep 1928. The pit was sunk by Stapleford Colliery Co at Stanton Gate in 1879 to Kilburn at 195 yards (178m) and stood. Re-opened by Dunn D. G. and Co in 1883-1886, company changed to Dunn Brothers 1886-1899, bought out by Cossall Colliery Co 1899-1940. Kept open as a pumping pit after 1928. There were several mines in this area previously.

Seams worked: Kilburn and Alton. Tupton exploration.
