March 1946 - A.Sheffield working on greenhouse for almost one week laying foundations with brick. When it was built he had several days building boiler. Les Havill and Harry Newton working on pipes, threading them. Cocking painting the greenhouse.
Planks taken to pit to be sawn up, 14' x 10", 3 bags of cement, 4 lots of putty at 14 lbs each pot.

1st April 1946 - Ambulance taken out to fetch boiler pipes for greenhouse. Two pieces of felting was made for Sudbury's car app. 2ft square with four holes riveted in each.

6th April 1946 - Cocking working in greenhouse all morning.

18th April 1946 - Don Roberts making cricket stumps and bails all morning for Russel.

29th April 1946 - One plank taken to pit to be sawn up to make a trough for greenhouse. Don Roberts working on it practically all day with Harry Newton helping.

1st May 1946 - Pit training at Lodge Colliery. Boss, Newton and me.

2nd May 1946 - Don Roberts sent Havill home for he was ill with tonsillitis so it made it, as I had to have afternoon leave. Don Roberts working on woodwork for. 1 bird to Lodge Colliery.

3rd May 1946 - Don Roberts working on lathe making something for a man called Smith at Manners pit. Piece of steel about 2ft making it into a long thread. 1 bird to Denby Colliery.

6th May 1946 - Cobbles came and some taken straight to greenhouse. I had waiting duty at home in morning. Afternoon duty I did last Friday for Havill. Don Roberts was working on some timber all morning for greenhouse frame. Afternoon made a screw lift.

7th May 1946 - TP put bean row up.

8th May 1946 - TP working with me changing dryer from 8.30 till 10.

9th May 1946 - Boss, Sheffield and me went to Woodside pit. T. Pearcy setting potatoes. Afternoon Don Roberts working in basement on stool and deck chair for Syson.

11th May 1946 - A. Sheffield used hydrant in yard to fill Syson's greenhouse tank and also watered garden and his own at same time.

25th May 1946 - Went in gallery to a pretend winding room fire with one man missing.

16th May 1946 - Syson mending watches in office.

17th May 1946 - Mr. Brown came at 11 o'clock. Horse manure arrived for Syson. Havill and Pearcy got it in for him.

18th May 1946 - Syson went to bank. Must have had hair cut whilst out. Load of nuts came.

20th May 1946 - Plant running and Pearcy working on Syson's garden all day.

21st May 1946 - Pearcy in garden up field pulling old cabbages out. Astle and Don Roberts fixing louvers in greenhouse.

23rd May 1946 - Pearcy in Syson's garden all day setting peas. Had a fire drill in morning.

3rd June 1946 - Pearcy making celery trench in Syson's garden all day. Don Roberts found ambulance battery run down so he put it on charge. Could not start ambulance up.

5th June 1946 - Went to Watnall pit with Sheffield. When we came back ran into back yard and straight into the railings at back of station with the ambulance. It knocked the bumper rail back into the tyre so the ambulance wouldn't move. Bumper had to be taken off and straightened. When ambulance backed in to station. Someone left the back door open and it got jammed against the garage doors. Sprained door, damage to front bumper, rip in front tyre and bent station railings.

6th June 1946 - ARP shed from up the field moved down to Syson's for a shed.

7th June 1946 - It happened that on Friday night there was only one driver in - A. Sheffield. Syson was on holiday, Don Roberts and Havill both on leave and out of the station. It is a good job no call for we should have been in the stew.

8th June 1946 - Holiday to celebrate 'Victory Day'.

26th June 1946 - Doctor came and we all had a medical.

11th July 1946 - Fire drill in morning for about 1½ hours. Pearcy setting leeks in garden. He went into the basement in the afternoon plucking and dressing Syson's fowl which stinks. Had to throw it away at finish anyway.

1st August 1946 - Fire drill from 9 til 12 o'clock

3rd August 1946 - Syson brought a dog onto the station and bathed it using soap and Jeys fluid from the stores.

23rd August 1946 - Letter went to Denby Colliery with payee cheque in it for account for one bird to be made payable to Supt. A. Syson. £1.5/- for one canary by cash or cheque.

27th August 1946 - Went to Bestwood Colliery with Don Roberts to deliver two canaries.

14th September 1946 - Took weeks holiday at Norwich. 1 day at Yarmouth, 1 at Cromer rest of week at Norwich.

23rd September 1946 - Don Roberts working on a printing machine, which belonged to Dr.Sudbury.

4th October 1946 - Rescue car went out in morning for a run to fetch apples from somewhere in Mapperley. Usually they put someone in back of car but that morning they did not because of the apples.
Man came from a shop on Bath Street to fetch some old accumulators - 2 x 12v and 3 x 6v belonging to Havill.
