My husband, Peter Wellings, used to work in the north east; he has a photo, from the Sunday Times in the 1960's, of himself and a mate with pit ponies, I'll have to see if I can iron it out and see what it looks like.
His great uncle was Hugh McGorrigan who received a Bronze Citation in 1914 with 3 other men, for trying to save the life of George Robinson at Easington pit.
The Water Hazard!
I have sent your site to my old school pal in Aussie. Her dad used to work at Firbeck as well. Now I'll send it to NZ, a lad who lives there came from my village,
so I think he will enjoy the site.
Here's another one for you. No word yet from NZ, but my friend in Aussie thinks the site is great. Catch you later, as the Aussies say. Glynis.
