Coal Clearance

Run of nine is carried from the working faces along 36" (900mm) conveyors which discharge onto the 42" (lO5Omm) trunk conveyor system and into the skip measuring pockets at the No.5 shaft. Mineral travels from the Blackshale to the Deep Soft horizon via a 1 in 4 drift in which a booster drive has been installed to increase the conveyor capacity.

In the truck system are two horizontal bunkers, a 200 tonne Cowlishaw Walker and a 400 tonne Butterley bunker, which facilitate storage and control the flow of R.O.M.

Belt weighing machines, situated at strategic points on the conveyor system, monitor the rate of flow of coal towards the shaft,
