My Grandfather, Alex Rowat Maxwell, now deceased formerly of 18 Shuttle St., Kilsyth was a coffin bearer in the Dumbreck Disaster. He passed in Aug 1997 at the age of 86. He told me many a story about the work at Dumbreck Pits. God Bless those who died and those who carried on. My father James Maxwell was 5 years old at that time and is now retired and 81 years. He also speaks of the Dumbreck Pits.
