In Answer to Allan Foster - Was Trowell Field on the same site as the later pit?

Trowell Moor Colliery

Hello there

Thank you for your website and all of the effort that you have put into it.
I will indeed be updating your information where I can. I have information (OS maps) that show Trowell Moor Colliery open sometime until the 1950s, unless it is just not noted as disused.

I also note that the coal seams present in the colliery were/are: Yard Coal, Denby Leaves, Top Softs, Middle Dirt and Bottom Softs.

Kind regards

Russell

Trowell Pit - I remember playing on the disused mine area in the 60s

Just been reading your site, I can definitely remember in 1968-69 as a child playing on the disused mine area, several red brick buildings were in place and a round single storey building with a concrete roof and just wire mesh front covering what would have been the shaft, we used to drop rocks down but never heard them land!!

Stanton Iron works regularly deposited slurry into areas on the spoil heap lagoons delivered by old Commer two strokes.

Hope this snippet helps
