Looking For Donna Bagnall who lived at Richmond Hill Farm in Dilhorne And Made a Shield When She Was 17 Years Old

Good morning, hope all is well with you, I’ve just had an interesting scan through your website.

The book "Goodbye Old Pick" was written by my Mother, Ann Goddard, a few years ago.  Mum has calls from various people interested in the book and the history of the area.  She was also contacted by a gentleman who sent her an interesting artifact from Talke O’The Hill mine– a shield – which had been made by a 17 year old Donna Bagnall who lived at Richmond Hill Farm in Dilhorne.  Mum is very keen to trace Donna and give her the piece of work back.  Donna would be 56 now we think and wondered if you had any contacts at all from this family or knew perhaps what may have happened to her.

I am going to send a link for your website to my Mum, who I will copy into this email, so that she can have a look at it, I’m sure she’ll be fascinated.

Many thanks for any help you can give us.

Regards,
Ali

Henry Crocott and the Talke O' the Hill, Mining Disaster Feb 1873

Hi
I have only recently discovered your site, while researching my Family Tree and was amazed to find my maternal Great Great Grandfather listed as a casualty of the 1873 disaster. His name is listed as Henry Crocott aged 27 Married. His surname was actually Grocott and he also had two children.

I have since discovered that Thomas Grocott aged 20, married with one child was the cousin of my Great, Great Grandfather Henry. I received today the marriage certificate of Thomas Grocott and Emily Breeze; they married 28 January 1872 at the Primitive Methodist Chapel, Talk O' Th' Hill, which was the place of residence for both of them. I feel that Thomas was the cousin of my Grt Grt Grandfather Henry Grocott as Thomas's father was Samuel Grocott. Occupation: Railway Labourer, which, on the 1861 census for 'my' Thomas was the occupation of his father Samuel. Also Thomas Grocott on the 1871 census born Crewe, Cheshire is down as being a Coal Miner which I felt narrowed it down even more.

I am also trying to locate any information regarding a Thomas Breeze who was also one of the 18 who died that day, as Thomas's wife was Emily nee Breeze and will let you know if I can find any connection.

It is a wonderful memorial to all miners who have so tragically lost their lives down the many years.

Thank you so much for making all the information available.

Yours sincerely

Jane Bradley-Jones
