There is a connection from my husband’s great aunt Anne Gallimore and the disaster of the Pretoria Pit.
Anne was a nurse, and was mentioned in the reports of the disaster commenting that nurse Gallimore, nurse Jones and another person spent many hours,
(I believe it was more than 50 hours) at the pit head, providing assistance in any way possible.
Nurse Gallimore lived in Leigh at the time; I have a photograph of her in nurse’s uniform, which I could forward on line if it is of any interest.
An elderly relative believes she was awarded an official commendation, I would be glad if you are able to confirm this.
Yours sincerely
Mrs. Jean Gallimore
