Maypole Centenary Service

Guided walk around areas of interest relating to coal mining in Abram lasting approximately 2 hours. Walk led by Geoff Jones Chairman of Astley Green Colliery Museum.

 

Meet at 2pm outside the flower shop opposite the Post Office (Warrington Rd, Abram) .
Suitable footwear essential.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.

An evening of coal mining history by Geoff Jones . Step back in time to discover what coal mining was like for our ancestors.

 

Abram Community Centre
(old library building).
Starts 7:30pm ends 9pm.
Admission free

Commemoration event starting at the site of the Maypole Colliery where a new memorial (kindly donated by Bloor Homes) will be unveiled, and walking accompanied by Tyldesley Brass Band, to the churchyard of St.John the Evangelist, Abram for a rededication of the Maypole Memorial. Parkside Male Voice choir will perform at the end of the service. Refreshments will be available in the church after the rededication.

Exhibition in St John the Evangelist Church, Warrington Rd, Abram showing details of the Maypole Colliery Disaster and Abram over the past 100 years, ending with a short Act of Remembrance on Monday 18th Aug at 5pm (the date and time of the disaster).
