John Hebblethwaite Sneyd Colliery Disaster 1942

My great uncle, John Hebblethwaite was one of the managers at Sneyd Colliery and led the rescue.
I would like to contact some of the people who have e mailed regarding the 1942 disaster but can not access emails.

Do I need to forward e mails via your general e mail.

Many thanks
Julia Nicolson ( nee Hebblethwaite)

I am afraid I cannot give out email addresses unless the subject asks for their email address to be published, I know it slows everything down but I can pass your email and address onto anyone and then if they respond you will have their address for the future.

My grandad Joseph Bourne was one of the first five rescue workers on the scene.

Hello my name is Craig Bourne I have been on your site and would like to share some information with you.

My grandad Joseph Bourne was one of the first five rescue workers on the scene. He was Captain of number one rescue team and I believe him to be the first on the right of your photo, (previous page) he was also deputy of Banbury. I have included a photo see right.

I have spoken to relatives and have been told that he trained Harry Baskerfield (The first man on the left of the photo) to become deputy manager; perhaps you could shed some light on this?

If I could help in any way please let me know?

Thank you
Craig

My Nana’s brother, Jack, died in the disaster aged only 20

Hi,
Firstly I would just like to say that your site is excellent. It's very informative, particularly the list of names, which we were particularly interested.
My Nana’s brother, Jack, died in the disaster aged only 20, and his friend was only 16, so our main interest was to find out if they were definitely on the list so that they can be remembered when the memorial is put up. I hope you don’t mind but I did notice a few mistakes in the names, and I hope you don't mind me correcting you on them, but you have J. Mostyn on the list (my Nana’s brother), but the surname is spelt Moston, and the
J.C. Grocott
that is listed was his friend, which like I said was only 16, and not 36.

Keep up the good work,
Best Regards,
Miss Elizabeth Forrest.

My Grandad And The Sneyd Pit Disaster

I was wondering if you could help me to find out about the Sneyd Pit disaster of 1942. My grandad would have been working in Hanley Pit at the time but I believe that he was a volunteer on the rescue team at Sneyd in 1942. His name was George Cooper and my dad had his lamp with the number on. I would be most grateful if you could tell me where I can get any information or copy records etc.

Many thanks in advance for your help
Carol Van De Sande
