RANDLE Edwin S. - 1885 - 21/12/1885 – Age 52 – Quarryman. Stert Quarry (metalliferous), William Baker and Henry Samuel, Diptford Ivybridge, Devon. Deceased, with others, was engaged in raising a small lift of pumps in a pit by means of a rope attached to the end of a lever and passing through a double and treble pulley block. The rope, which was too small for this purpose broke and deceased was knocked into the pit by the rebound of the lever. Before he could be taken out he had swallowed such a quantity of water as to cause suffocation.

Hip joint injured by a tub of coal which was being put in at the top passing through and falling from a drop cage for lowering to carts, the onsetter at the top having omitted to notice that the stop catch at the far side was not in place, when he put the tub in.
READ John - 1889 - 19/12/1889 – Age 50 – Collier. East Slade, New Bowson Colliery Co., Cinderford, Forest of Dean. He was injured by a fall of coal in his working place. He resumed work once or twice but was unable to continue at it for more than a few days. He died suddenly on the 1st September in his working place having a few days previously again resumed work. The evidence at the inquest satisfied the coroner and jury that death was the result of "heart disease," caused, or at least accelerated, by this accident.
READ Thomas - 1888 - 03/02/1888 – Age 19 – Collier. Hafod, Ruabon Coal and Coke Co. Ltd., Ruabon, Denbigh. Inspection made. A prop had been knocked out by some coal falling against it and deceased was starting to reset it when a stone fell from between two slips on to him. Died 12th May.

READMAN Henry - 1880 - 27/05/1880 – Age 28 – Miner. Grinkle (Ironstone), Palmer’s Shipbuilding and Iron Co. Ltd., Saltburn, Yorkshire. While lighting up a shot he lit the squib instead of the match, and he was killed before he had time to get out of the way of it.

Nine trams were let down a heading dipping about three inches per yard, four were lifted off the rails to act as a nock but when the rope was unhitched they ran down about 35 yards and the deceased was jammed against the face of the coal.

The stone was 6ft.x 3ft.x 15ins. thick and discharged the only prop which was supporting it. It fell out from between a slip and a joint which met and was open next the roadside where deceased was filling a tram with coal.
