YATES Enoch - 1867 - 30/05/1867 – Age 38 - Fireman. Mense Lea, Peter Nightingale and Co., Worsley, Lancashire. Explosion of firedamp in Rams 7ft mine. A new cut through was made the evening before but being only a small hole and the flexible tubing which had been used instead of brattice being stowed in the previous cut through there was not enough room for the air which caused the ventilation being overpowered during the night. The Fireman and the miners also appeared were going to work in the morning and one of them was found in advance instead of the Fireman making the inspection with a lamp. 7 killed.

YATES J. - 1867 - 07/01/1867 – Age 33 - Miner. Sytch (ironstone), Thomas Wood, Burslem, Staffordshire. Fall of stone. 2 killed.

YATES John - 1868 - 16/09/1868 – Age 52 - Collier. Raith, Lochgelly Iron Co., Lochgelly, Fife. The men were sitting at breakfast about 20ft back from the face of their room when the roof (about 12ins of coal) suddenly fell on them. 2 killed.

YATES Nathaniel - 1864 - 27/04/1864 – Age 38 - Collier. Bickershaw, Ackers Whitley and Co., Wigan, Lancashire. Fall of stone from roof. 2 killed.

YATES Thomas - 1863 - 16/07/1863 – Age 14 - Drawer. Blackeyhurst, Samuel Stock, St. Helens, Lancashire. Explosion of gas.

YATES William - 1861 - 01/11/1861 – Age 40 - Collier. Shevington, John Tayleur and Son, Wigan, Lancashire. Explosion of gas. 13 killed.

YEATES John - 1861 - 26/10/1861. Mount Osborne, William Day, Barnsley, Yorkshire. Fall of roof in the mine.

YEM John - 1861 - 03/10/1861 – Age 16 - Haulier. Rose, ED Williams, Newport, Monmouth. Found dead on parting in the main road under a large stone from the roof. He was taking team of full trams out at the time.

YEM William - 1861 - 19/06/1861 – Age 58 - Collier. Billson, A Goold and Co., Forest of Dean, Gloucester. He put off a shot which dislodged about 3 tons of stuff but more was left hanging and looking as to how this was to be brought down suddenly came with a run and killed him.

YEMM Richard - 1860 - 30/07/1860 – Age 31 - Collier. Lightmoor, Crawshay and Co., Cinderford, Gloucester. Somebody had left the half flap up in the shaft which Yemm, being acquainted with, walked over the opposite flap and fell to the bottom. Died 13th. Aug.

YETTS Thomas - 1869 - 05/06/1869 – Age 42 - Sinker. Etherley, Stobart and Co., Darlington, Durham. Fell out of kibble.

YORUSH Llewellin - 1863 - 20/01/1863 – Age 14 - Sinker. Llanharry, John Bethell, Llantrissent, Glamorgan. Defective machinery (sinking shaft).

YOUD George - 1862 - 17/06/1862 – Age 37 - Sinker. Shorey Bank, Potters and Co., Over Darwin, Lancashire. Powder from a blast exploding in the hole being rammed. 3 others were hurt and 3 by a similar explosion on the 12th. A charge had been prepared by Ramsden and Youd of about 2 lb. of blasting powder, and they were engaged in stemming it upon the hole previously prepared for it. Whilst Redmayne and Riley were similarly employed, the odd man, Bury, was attending to the sending up of the tubs. Youd was holding the rammer, while Ramsden was striking with his hammer for him. When the rammer, as in the case of the accident last week came into Contact with the hard rock, it struck fire, igniting the fuse and exploding the shot, scattering large pieces on all sides. Youd, a powerful man, six feet two inches in height, was killed on the spot, his hands, arms and legs being literally shattered to pieces, and his face blackened dreadfully. Bury was badly bruised about the legs and chest and Redmayne was severely injured. Riley and Ramsden were badly bruised and scorched on the arms, head and legs. The jury without leaving their seats returned a verdict of "Accidental death". (Blackburn Times).

YOUNG Anthony - 1860 - 20/12/1860 – Age 52 - Shifter. Minor Pit, South Hetton Coal Co., Hetton, Durham. Explosion of gas supposed to have been generated from the coals of the engine or boiler fire and not from gas generated in the workings of the mine. 22 killed.

YOUNG Archibald - 1863 - 12/02/1863 – Age 31 - Collier. Bredisholm, Provanhall Coal Co., Baillieston, Lanarkshire. A piece of Pyotshaw Coal 24’x22’x3’ fell on him as he was preparing to take it down.

YOUNG E. - 1864 - 27/01/1864 – Age 40 - Bandsman. Willenhall (ironstone), Osier Bed Co., Willenhall, Staffordshire. Explosion of firedamp 27th. Died this day. He incautiously took a naked light into a headway to adjust the air pipes and accidentally fired the gas.

YOUNG Eli - 1864 - 14/01/1864 – Age 16 - Putter. Camerton, New Camerton Coal Co., Camerton, Somerset. Running out a tub of rubbish he got before it instead of conducting it from behind then unfortunately missed his footing and the forewheel broke his leg. He was taken to Bath Hospital where on 4th. March amputation took place but he could not survive it dying the following day.

YOUNG Joseph - 1865 - 19/12/1865 – Age 14 - Drawer. Sunnyside, Archibald Russell, Lanarkshire. Fell before wheels of hutches while riding on them against orders.
