During 1972 the Wages department and Pay office in the main office block built in 1927 was moved to a new purpose built office at the rear of the Pithead baths for the newly formed Time and Wages department, the Time Office being moved out of part of the Lamp Room and the Survey department on the first floor next door to the Managers office moved into the vacated Wages office on the ground floor. The old Survey office was then taken over by the administrative section for Chief Clerk, and typists and the Administrative Officer in the office adjacent to the Manager.

Other improvements were made in the main office block at that time. A new Conference room was created downstairs adjacent to the Survey office and the Cost clerks moved to another location at the end of the corridor. The Deputy Manager had a new office upstairs and the old office was converted into a new shower room for the Manager and Deputy Manager upstairs and a new shower room for other Management staff downstairs and various other offices swapped round. The Undermanager moved into the Main office block from the Green Hut nearby allowing that office to be used for Safety department. Others in the Green Hut in 1972 were the Training officer, Clerk, Ventilation department, Methane drainage, Dust suppression and an aviary for the canaries.
