CHINN D. - 1857 - 10/09/1857 – Age 34. Gwane, William Mills and Sons, Dudley, Worcestershire. Explosion of firedamp at the far end of the workings in the rise or crop side of the pit. The falling in of the roof had closed up the airways and the pit on that side filled up with gas and the subsequent want of discipline unquestionably caused the immediate act of firing the sulphur. 9 killed.

CHURCH Edwin - 1856 - 09/01/1856 – Age 39. Parkfield, Kingswood, Gloucester. Killed by an immense stone when securing the roof or hatching which broke both his legs. He was released in seven minutes but died of his injuries two hours later. He left a widow and six small children.

CRITCHLEY David - 1859 – 24/12/1859 - Collier. John Fletcher and others, Atherton, Lancashire. Explosion of firedamp in the How Bridge pit, Rams Mine. Firedamp came out of a white vein in an upbrow 3 yards beyond the cut through and fired as Critchley was coming to see it. The general ventilation of the pit appeared good but the split where this happened was lengthening and may have had less air than other parts. 2 killed.
