KERSHAW Richard - 1859 - 10/02/1859 - Collier. Todmorden Moor, James Dearden, Todmorden, Lancashire. A shot going off apparently whilst stemming or ramming, an iron pricker being used and not safety fuse. 2 killed.

Old Coal, Cruttwell and Levick Coalbrookdale, Shropshire Explosion of firedamp by cause of violations by the management of the following special rules, adequate ventilation, constant supervision underground, no single main door, no locked lamps wherever firedamp was known to exist. The owner neglected to comply with the Act. 9 killed and 2 rescuers.
