LAWRENCE Joseph - 1852 - 02/10/1852. Ram Hill, Kingswood, Gloucester. Killed by being precipitated over the spiver wheel at Coal pit Heath.

LAWRENCE Joseph - 1859 - 07/10/1859 – Coalminer. Kingswood, Gloucester. Working on a lower vein, Mr Lawrence gave the usual signal for ascending, which was passed by the Banksman to the engineer, Isachar Dando, who set the engine in motion. The cart had ascended half way when a drover could be seen coming along the road with a pig Dando had purchased at Westerleigh Fair. Dando, in some excitement forgot himself, left his post with his task unfinished and rushed off to see the pig, leaving the machinery to his son Moses, a boy of eighteen, who had hauled up on several previous occasions. Unhappily, the lad panicked and muddled the reversing handles, by which the speed was increased instead of being decreased. Lawrence was drawn over the shiver wheel and precipitated 59 yards receiving injuries from which he died. Isachar Dando was committed for trial charged with manslaughter.
